Gas Leak on Cormorant Alpha Platform
Seventy North Sea workers were airlifted to a nearby platform after a gas escape on Shell's Cormorant Alpha platform. The incident occurred at lunchtime on Tuesday when there was a gas release within the process area. No one was hurt.
All non-essential personnel were flown by helicopter to the nearby North Cormorant platform which Shell commented was a precuationary measure. A Shell spokeswoman said the reason for the gas release had been identified as a pinhole in a flexible hose.
The platform is still not producing, although workers are gradually being returned.
